TREY FRIEDMAN
“Trey Friedman is an American realist painter whose iconography is one of isolation. Unlike Homer or Hopper, however, Friedman’s sense of alienation arises not from the vastness of this country but from his being caught between the swelling of society and the ebbing of nature.
Over the years, from New York City to the lower Berkshire Hills, Friedman has prospected for images that are endemic to life on the edge of the forest—tree, road, crow, crumpled paper, unfinished house. Forming a visual progression from rusticism to domesticity the message these items collectively symbolize is the same: a mutual unease between people and nature.”
